LIFE ON THE FARM
Born at Needwood Farms in The Great Depression, Richard Pry has lived on his family's farm his entire life. The farm is nestled right outside of Burkittsville, Maryland, a historic small town with an estimated population of 142 people, according Maryland Department of Planning data. His earliest and most recent memories include the farm.
Richard and his wife, Pat, met over 70 years ago. He noticed her at sitting in the pews at a church service in town. He could not take his eyes off of her, and eventually introduced himself. Since then, the two have been inseparable and have welcomed a number of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren together. Every day, the two rise before dawn and complete their farm duties throughout the day. It is their life on the farm.
Richard and Pat have passed along their love for farming to their family, and have raised their children on the farm. Richard’s son, Tim Pry, operates Pry’s Deer Processing on the farm during hunting season. Tim works with a number of family and friends to help him in the busy season. Though the hours can be long, the Pry family continues to work together on the farm's duties to keep everything running smoothly on the land.
